Sub-slab depressurization

The standard radon system for most Colorado homes — and the one the EPA calls the most common and most reliable. A single suction point under your slab, a quiet fan, and indoor radon drops by up to 99%.

How it works

A radon technician cuts a single suction point through your basement or ground-floor slab, then runs 3-inch PVC pipe from that point up through the home (or up an exterior wall) and vents it above the roofline. An inline, radon-rated fan runs continuously, pulling the radon-laden air from beneath the foundation and releasing it where it disperses harmlessly. The EPA notes that “often, only a single suction point is needed.”

The result is a home that reads well below the 4 pCi/L action level — reductions of up to 99% are typical. A pressure gauge (manometer) on the pipe lets you confirm at a glance that the system is running.

When it’s the right system

Sub-slab depressurization is the default for the roughly 70% of Colorado homes built on a slab or with a basement. If your home sits over a crawlspace instead, the sealed-membrane approach on our crawlspace mitigation page is the right read; homes with both a basement and a crawlspace may need a multi-foundation system.

What’s included & what it costs

A standard install runs about $1,499, takes 4–6 hours, and includes the suction point, fan, sealed PVC run, manometer, and a post-install re-test to confirm levels dropped below the action level. Colorado Radon Company is NRPP- and AARST-certified and state-licensed, as Colorado law requires.
